How is a combined VA disability rating calculated?

The VA uses 'whole person' math (38 CFR § 4.25). Disabilities are combined sequentially against remaining efficiency, then rounded to the nearest 10%. Ratings are NOT simply added together.

What is the bilateral factor?

When two or more disabilities affect paired limbs or extremities, the VA combines those bilateral ratings, then adds an extra 10% of that combined value (38 CFR § 4.26).
